Description

During World War II, the rank structure of warrant officers in the United States Armed Forces included two grades: Warrant Officer (W-1) and Chief Warrant Officer (CWO).
Warrant Officer (W-1) was the junior grade, while Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) included grades from CWO-2 to CWO-5.
Warrant officers were rated as officers above all non-commissioned officers but below the lowest officer grade of O-1.
The insignia for Warrant Officers was a gold bar with brown enamel, while Chief Warrant Officers had a gold bar insignia.
Warrant officers served as technical experts and could command units, detachments, and vehicles, leading and training subordinates.
