The 34th Infantry Division, part of the United States Army National Guard, was established on July 18, 1917. It has a storied history, beginning with its formation from units across Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. During World War I, the division trained at Camp Cody, New Mexico, and although it arrived in France in October 1918, it did not see combat before being disbanded in 1919. The division’s distinctive insignia, designed by American artist Marvin Cone, features a red steer skull over a black Mexican water jug, symbolizing its desert training origins.

In World War II, the 34th Infantry Division was the first American division to deploy to Europe, contributing significantly to the Allied efforts in North Africa and Italy. It participated in key operations such as Operation Torch, the Battle of Monte Cassino, and the capture of Bologna. The division was recognized for its valor with the French Croix de Guerre with Palm.

Post-World War II, the division was reactivated and has since been involved in various operations, including homeland security, combat missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, and peacekeeping in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. The division continues to draw strength from units across multiple states, with the Minnesota and Iowa National Guards at its core.

This patch is compatible with a variety of applications, including military uniforms, jackets, and collector displays. It serves as a tribute to the enduring legacy of the 34th Infantry Division and its contributions to national and global security.
