For drivers, this includes completing military vehicle operations and maintenance training, serving as a driver or assistant driver for at least 12 consecutive months (or covering 8,000 miles) without accidents or traffic violations, or serving as a qualified driver instructor or examiner for a year. Mechanics must pass aptitude tests, achieve a skilled rating in mechanics, be assigned to primary mechanic duty, and meet driving requirements if operating vehicles in their role. Special equipment operators must complete 12 months or 500 hours of operation without accidents or reprimands.
